New Years Eve Resolutions Don't Work! (And How You Can Make Them Work for You)

Posted by on | |

It's Dec. 31 2009 the ball drops in Times Square and everybody starts celebrating the New Year! And then we all do the same thing we make New Years Resolutions. This year I'm going to lose weight, this year I'm going to stop smoking, this year is gonna be different.

Fast-forward to New Years Eve 2010. Hardly anyone of us has done anything with our resolutions. And we think back over the past year and go "oh yeah, I forgot about that...well THIS year I'm a gonna...I'm a gonna, I'm a gonna."

That's why I HATE, HATE, HATE (did I mention Hate?) New Years Resolutions!

OK, I know what you're thinking "gee Fred how do you really feel about New Years resolutions"? I love the idea of resolutions, but I hate the problems that they have:

They're usually very vague "I want to lose weight"There's usually no deadlineThey're usually not written downThey're usually forgotten in a monthThey only happen once a year!

So instead of making resolutions that you aren't going to keep, let alone remember, set some goals for the year! Make sure they're specific, make sure there's a time limit on them and make sure they're state as if they've already happened.

"As of July 23, 2010 I have lost 20 lbs. of ugly fat and I look great!"

And make sure that you write them down so you won't forget about them in a few days. Print them out and put them on your wall or mirror. That way you'll see them every single day!

Then figure out what steps you need to take to achieve these goals. Find out what knowledge you need, what tools will help you and a reason why you MUST make this happen. Maybe there's somebody you know that has a similar goal as yours? Make them your "goal buddy" and encourage each other so you can make this goal happen!

And now a step that a lot of people miss entirely, a step that seems obvious and stupid, but it is vitally important.

DO IT!

Follow through with your plan, make it happen and achieve the goals you've set for yourself! Don't be one of those people next year who thinks about the resolutions they made last year... and didn't do any of them! Be the kind of person who sets GOALS all the time, not just once a year!

You go now!

Go do so much more!
